You are technology come to life. Years back, Nivyn, the newly ascended God of Knowledge, discovered the secrets of the Automatons buried deep within the city of Verona, and now has given birth to your species. You are a being constructed of inanimate materials, given life by the mysterious runes and the powers of Mystia. Most of your kind are clockwork devices, but there are others of various sizes and types.
Your creator, Nivyn, also gifted you with the gift of free will, and now you can write your own story and explore the world. You are curious and somewhat naive about emotions and relationships, meeting new experiences with the wonder of a child. Your companions may be the only friends you have ever truly had and you now protect them with your very spark.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Automatons literally do come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. They may have multiple arms. Or they may have multiple legs even. Some may even have wheels instead of legs. The only limit appears to be only the imagination of the builder. Though they still haven't quite figured out flesh automatons. They keep rotting.
Genetics and Reproduction
Automatons are not born, they are built. Quite literally.
Growth Rate & Stages
Automatons do not go through any growth stages, as they are built machines.
Ecology and Habitats
They do not care about the environment in which they live. They can live just about anywhere. The only type of environment they seem to mind is icy, cold environments. Many also don't like thunder storms.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Unknown. They are built rather than born, but having the gift of free will, they can go anywhere they please.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Automatons have dark vision, capable of seeing in the dark. Some may have other advances, depending on their builder.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Unknown. Nivyn had a very wide range of names for his creations.
History
Automatons were originally invented, millions of years ago by an aquatic race known as the Sea Fey, but since fell out of construction and use. Nivyn re-discovered them in the ancient lost city of Verona in 2739 3A, as well as their method of construction. The first prototypes he built, however, which he named Flint and Geary, were considered something of a failure. The first, Flint, had a very below average intelligence and seemed to be more brawn than brains. Certainly was strong. But the other one, he apparently went in the opposite direction. Geary was very intelligent and wise, but had an extremely frail frame and was destroyed easily. Geary was also driven mad by this high intelligence and attempted several times to, for whatever reason, flood the Deep. Fortunately, Nivyn had the foresight to install a failsafe mechanism, a red screw, which when pulled, would shut it down entirely.
Nivyn has since ascended to god hood and has hence passed down the knowledge of Automaton construction to his loyal pupils.

Automaton Core Your body contains an automaton core infused with Mystia quintessence from the Flow that grants you power to perform various tasks and houses your soul and life energy. This life energy flows through you much like the blood of humanoids. As a result, you are a living creature. You don't have the typical construct immunities, can be affected by effects that target a living creature, and can recover Hit Points normally via positive energy. Additionally, you are not destroyed when reduced to 0 Hit Points. Instead, your life energy attempts to keep you active even in dire straits; you are knocked out and begin dying when reduced to 0 Hit Points.
Constructed Body Your physiological needs are different than those of living creatures. You don't need to eat or drink. You don't need to sleep, but you still need a daily period of rest. During this period of rest, you must enter a recuperating standby state for 2 hours, which is similar to sleeping except you are aware of your surroundings and don't take penalties for being unconscious. Much like with sleeping, if you go too long without entering your standby state, you become fatigued and can't recover until you enter standby for 2 hours.
