Ancient Ones
The Ancient Ones are a very dark, shady part of the world mythology, and only recently really came into the light, so to speak. According to the mythology surrounding the Ancient Ones, they were the first, the original beings who were here long before the gods ever came into the picture, in a time where the multiverse was nothing more than just black, darkness for as far as the eye could see. Then the gods came, and war erupted between them. They fought for ages, and eventually the Ancient Ones were defeated and exiled to another, far distant plane. And here, the gods created the world, Terr'ahna, as well as all of the other planes of the multiverse, and the Ancient Ones faded into history.
However, they were not gone. Only biding their time, awaiting the day when they shall return and take their revenge upon the gods. Their minions, the demonic beings known as the Necro Spirits, found a way into Terr'ahna, into the material plane, and began to lay the groundwork for their masters' return. They enlisted the help of nine liches, known as the Undead Kings, to spread death and destruction across the world, and to work towards releasing the Ancient Ones from their prison. However, in the year 2740 3A, adventurers from all over the world, banded together to fight back against the invasion of the Undead Kings' armies, and managed to defeat one of them, sending the others into hiding. Some of them later found another of the Undead Kings trying to break into the Sacred Nexus, the realm of the gods, and managed to defeat her, not by violence, but by diplomacy.
Seven Undead Kings still remain, now in hiding. Biding their time. Paving the way for their masters' return. Cults have begun to emerge all across the world. It is only a matter of time.
