The Maji Guard Ghosts
They are the shadows in the night. They are the best of the best. Elite trained covert operatives who handle the most sensitive of missions. Officially, they do not exist. Unofficially, they do not exist. Most Maji Guardians do not even truly know that they exist. To them they are a myth, making it rather easy for them to deny the existence of the so-called 'Ghosts'. But all myths usually have some basis in reality.
According to myth, the Ghosts have special powers, similar to magic. They can cloak themselves in the shadows and move without being seen or heard. They can move faster than ordinary men. They can kill a man without even coming within crossbow range of him. They can run across water. They can breathe under water.
Generally however, truth can be stranger than fiction. In reality, the Ghosts do employ some unusual techniques and technology never even dreamt of by ordinary men. But they are no mere assassins as the myth portrays. In truth, the Ghosts are covert operatives who handle far more than just assassinations. Without the Ghosts, the Maji Guard would be starved for information about their enemies, most especially of the Sechi Legion.
But the greatest question of all would be, who do the Ghosts answer to, if the Maji Guard themselves consider them mere myth? The truth: no one truly knows. Perhaps they answer only to themselves. Perhaps they answer directly to the Pharaoh. Or perhaps they answer directly to the Council.
Perhaps, they are far more than myth portrays. . .
