The afternoon sun filtered through the large windows of the classroom, casting warm, golden light on the rows of wooden desks. The students of the Temple of Ithila sat attentively, their eyes fixed on Master Alden Varro, who stood at the front of the room with a large, detailed map of Erelos pinned to the wall behind him. Master Varro was a tall man with sharp, intelligent eyes and a presence that commanded respect. His voice, though firm, carried a tone of warmth and patience.

"Today, we will delve into the history of The Chancel, The Great Unification, and the government of Erelos," Master Varro began, his gaze sweeping across the room. "These are crucial topics that shape our understanding of our world and our place within it."

He pointed to the map, highlighting a central region. "The Chancel is the governing body of Erelos, established during The Great Unification. It is composed of representatives from each of the major realms and is responsible for maintaining peace and order across the land, as well as trade."

Seum, sitting near the front, raised his hand. "Master Varro, what exactly was The Great Unification?"

Master Varro smiled, clearly pleased by the question. "The Great Unification was a pivotal event in our history. It occurred several centuries ago when the various warring factions and kingdoms of Erelos were brought together under a single banner. This was made possible through the efforts of wise leaders, The Great Line of Queens and the guidance of the Elder Gods. The goal was to create a unified and peaceful society, where all could prosper."

He continued, his voice carrying the weight of the history he spoke of. "The Chancel was formed as a result of this unification. It consists of a council of representatives from each realm, ensuring that all regions have a voice in the governance of our land. The council meets regularly to discuss issues, make laws, and address the needs of the people.  The Chancel also is responsible for creating and maintaining the currency that we all use for trade."

Lyra Silverbrook, another student, raised her hand. "Master Varro, how does the Chancel ensure that all voices are heard? Aren't there conflicts of interest?"

"Excellent question, Lyra," Master Varro responded. "The Chancel operates on the principles of democracy and consensus. While conflicts do arise, the council members are chosen for their wisdom, integrity, and commitment to the common good. They are expected to negotiate and find compromises that benefit all. Additionally, there are various committees and advisory groups that help address specific issues, ensuring a more comprehensive and balanced approach."

Garon, sitting next to Seum, leaned forward. "What about the Great Line of Queens? How do they fit into this government?"

Master Varro nodded, his expression becoming more serious. "The Great Line of Queens is deeply intertwined with the history and governance of Erelos. The queens are believed to be divinely chosen, their lineage blessed by the Elder Gods. Historically, they have held significant influence, often serving as moral and spiritual leaders. Although the throne has been empty for generations, the prophecy of the return of the Great Line of Queens holds great significance for our future."

He paused, allowing the students to absorb the information. "The government of Erelos is a complex system, with the Chancel at its core. It is supported by regional governors, local councils, and various institutions that ensure the smooth functioning of our society. The Chancel's role is not just to govern but to uphold the values of justice, equality, and harmony that were established during The Great Unification."

Seum listened intently, his earlier frustrations forgotten in the face of the rich history and intricate governance he was learning about. He raised his hand again. "Master Varro, what role do the temples play in the government?"

"The temples," Master Varro replied, "play a crucial role in both the spiritual and civic life of Erelos. They provide guidance, education, and support to the people. The high priests and priestesses often serve as advisors to the Chancel, offering their wisdom and ensuring that the decisions made are in alignment with the divine will and the greater good. Temples like ours also serve as centers of learning and culture, preserving our history and traditions."

The students nodded, their understanding deepening with each word. Master Varro's passion for the subject was evident, and his ability to convey complex ideas in an engaging and accessible manner made the lesson enjoyable.

As the class continued, the students engaged in more discussions, asking questions and sharing their thoughts. The atmosphere was one of mutual respect and curiosity, a testament to Master Varro's teaching style.

By the end of the lesson, Seum felt a renewed sense of purpose. The intricate tapestry of Erelos' history and governance was beginning to make more sense, and he realized that his role as an acolyte was part of a much larger picture. The knowledge he was gaining would not only help him in his studies but also in his future endeavors.

Master Varro concluded the lesson with a final thought. "Remember, understanding our past and our systems of governance is crucial to shaping a better future. You are all part of that future, and the knowledge you gain here will empower you to make a positive difference in the world."

As the students filed out of the classroom, Seum and Garon lingered for a moment, discussing the day's lesson.

"That was really interesting," Garon said, his eyes bright with enthusiasm. "I never realized how much goes into running our world."

Seum nodded, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Yeah, it's a lot to take in. But it makes me feel like what we're doing here is really important."

Garon clapped Seum on the back. "It is, that's for sure, Starlight!"

As the afternoon lesson continued, Master Alden Varro decided to delve deeper into the topic of the Great Line of Queens, a subject that fascinated many of the students. He could see the eagerness in their eyes, and he knew that this part of the history was both inspiring and crucial for their understanding of their world and their place within it.

"Now, let's talk about the Great Line of Queens," Master Varro began, his voice carrying a tone of reverence. "The queens were not only political and spiritual leaders but also among the most powerful magic users in the history of Erelos."

He pointed to a tapestry hanging on the wall, depicting a majestic queen surrounded by swirling magical energies. "The queens of the Great Line had the unique ability to master all the known paths of magic. This is a feat that very few could achieve. The long-known paths of magic are Alchemy, Witchcraft, Druidism, Necromancy, Magecraft, and Sorcery. Most practitioners can master only one or possibly two of these paths, but the queens could master all six."

Seum leaned forward, his eyes wide with interest. "Master Varro, how could they master all the paths? It sounds almost impossible."

Master Varro nodded, understanding the awe in Seum's voice. "Indeed, it seems impossible to us, but the queens were blessed by the Elder Gods with extraordinary magical abilities. They possessed a deep, intrinsic connection to the source of all magic, allowing them to learn and master all the paths. This mastery made them unparalleled in power and wisdom, capable of performing feats that no other could."

Lyra Silverbrook raised her hand. "What are the specific abilities associated with each path of magic?"

Master Varro smiled, pleased by her curiosity. "Excellent question, Lyra. Each path of magic has its own unique focus and abilities:

  • Alchemy: The art of transforming matter, creating potions, and discovering the secrets of physical properties.
  • Witchcraft: The practice of using spells and rituals to influence the world, often connected with nature and the elements.
  • Druidism: The path of communion with nature, allowing the practitioner to control plants, animals, and natural forces including healing.
  • Necromancy: The dark art of communicating with and controlling the dead, often viewed with suspicion and fear.
  • Magecraft: The study of pure magical energy, harnessing it for a variety of spells and enchantments.
  • Sorcery: The most versatile of the paths, involving the direct manipulation of magical forces to achieve various effects.

"The queens could wield all these abilities with equal skill, making them formidable leaders and protectors of our realm."

Garon, who had been listening intently, asked, "Are there any records of the queens using their powers in significant events?"

Master Varro nodded. "There are many records and legends of the queens using their powers to shape the course of history. One famous queen, Elara the Wise, used her mastery of Druidism to save Erelos from a terrible drought, bringing life back to the land. Another, Seraphina the Bold, used her skills in Necromancy to defeat an entire army of thousands of undead that threatened the kingdom. These are just a few examples of their incredible abilities and the vital roles they played."

Seum felt a mix of admiration and determination. "It sounds like they were truly remarkable. Do you think we'll ever see a queen like that again?"

Master Varro's expression grew serious. "The prophecy of the return of the Great Line of Queens suggests that we will. It is said that the next queen will be even more powerful, destined to bring an end to the evil that plagues our world. This is why understanding our history and mastering our own abilities is so important. We must be ready to support her when the time comes."

The students nodded, the weight of Master Varro's words settling over them. They realized that their studies and training were not just for personal growth but were part of a larger purpose.

As the lesson drew to a close, Master Varro offered a final thought. "Remember, each of you has the potential to contribute to the greater good. Whether through magic, wisdom, or courage, you all have a role to play in the future of Erelos. The Great Line of Queens may return, but it is up to all of us to ensure that we are ready to support her and protect our world."

The students left the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose, their minds buzzing with the knowledge they had gained. Seum and Garon walked together, discussing the day's lesson.

"I can't believe how powerful the queens were," Seum said, his voice filled with awe. "Imagine mastering all the paths of magic."

Garon nodded. "It's incredible. But Master Varro is right. We all have our part to play. And who knows? Maybe one day, we'll be part of something just as great."

With their hearts filled with hope and determination, the students of the Temple of Ithila continued their journey of learning and growth, united by their shared goal of a brighter future for Erelos.

The next day the large classroom was filled with the soft murmur of students eagerly waiting for Mistress Thalira Davenwood to begin her lesson. The walls were adorned with intricate tapestries depicting scenes of ancient battles and celestial beings, a testament to the rich history of Erelos. Mistress Davenwood, a graceful woman with silver hair and an air of quiet authority, stood at the front of the room.

"Today," Mistress Davenwood began, her voice melodic and clear, "we will explore the lore of the Elder Gods and the legendary War of Nascent Magic, or Si Shas os Barael Tandros, as the Eldar of the forests of Aston refer to it."

She gestured to a detailed tapestry showing a great battle between powerful beings, their forms glowing with divine energy. "This war was a pivotal event in the history of Erelos. It was during this conflict that the Elder Gods of Good were changed into spirit form and departed from our world."

Seum raised his hand, his curiosity piqued. "Mistress Davenwood, what caused the War of Nascent Magic?"

Mistress Davenwood nodded, appreciating the question. "The war was sparked by a great imbalance of power. The Elder Gods of Good, who created and nurtured our world, sought to protect it from the forces of darkness. However, as the magic of Erelos grew, so did the ambitions of those who wished to control it for their own purposes. This led to a cataclysmic conflict between the forces of light and darkness."

She pointed to a figure in the tapestry, a majestic being radiating light. "This is Afwai, the Bringer of Peace, one of the Elder Gods of Good. Alongside Afwai were Ladrinae - The Bringer of Faith, Thun - The Bringer of Strength, Nathar - The Bringer of Healing, Yohua - The Bringer of Truth, and Daggua - The Bringer of Wisdom,  and others are their servants the Erelasi. They fought valiantly to preserve the balance of magic and protect the inhabitants of Erelos."

Lyra Silverbrook raised her hand next. "What happened to the Elder Gods after the war?"

Mistress Davenwood’s expression turned somber. "As the war reached its climax, the Elder Gods realized that their continued presence in physical form would only prolong the conflict and endanger Erelos. To protect our world, they chose to transform into spirit form and depart, leaving behind their teachings and a portion of their power in the form of divine magic."

Garon leaned forward, his brow furrowed in thought. "So, they sacrificed their physical forms to save Erelos?"

"Yes, Garon," Mistress Davenwood replied. "Their sacrifice was a profound act of love and selflessness. By becoming spirits, they could watch over Erelos and guide us from beyond, ensuring that the balance of magic was maintained."

Seum felt a deep sense of awe. "But how do we still feel their presence and use their magic?"

Mistress Davenwood smiled, her eyes reflecting the wisdom of ages. "The Elder Gods left behind the essence of their power, which we can access through faith, devotion, and the practice of divine magic. This connection allows us to draw upon their strength and wisdom, even though they are no longer with us in physical form.  They also left behind sacred stones that are said to be the keys to defeating the Elder Gods of Evil."

She walked over to a bookshelf and pulled out an ancient tome, its pages yellowed with age. "This book contains the sacred texts and prophecies left by the Elder Gods of Good. It is through these texts that we learn their teachings and understand our place in the grand tapestry of Erelos."

Lyra spoke up again. "Mistress Davenwood, what about the Eldar of the forests of Aston? How do they view the Elder Gods?"

"The Eldar hold the Elder Gods in the highest reverence," Mistress Davenwood explained. "They refer to the War of Nascent Magic as Si Shas os Barael Tandros and view it as a crucial part of their history and identity. The Eldar believe that the Elder Gods still guide them, particularly through the natural world and the ancient magic that flows through their forests."

Garon asked, "Do the Eldar have their own legends and prophecies about the return of the Elder Gods or the Great Line of Queens?"

"Indeed they do," Mistress Davenwood replied. "The Eldar's legends speak of a time when the balance of magic will be threatened once more, and a great savior will rise to restore harmony. They believe that this savior will be connected to the Great Line of Queens, who were blessed by the Elder Gods with unparalleled magical abilities."

Seum's mind raced with the implications of what he was learning. "So, the return of the Great Line of Queens and the fulfillment of the prophecies are intertwined with the legacy of the Elder Gods?"

"Exactly, Seum," Mistress Davenwood confirmed. "The return of the Great Line of Queens is seen as a sign that the Elder Gods' influence continues to shape our world. It is believed that the next queen will possess the power to master all the paths of magic, just as the Elder Gods intended, and will play a crucial role in protecting Erelos from future threats."

The students sat in thoughtful silence, absorbing the magnitude of the lore they were learning. Mistress Davenwood closed the tome and looked at them with pride.

"Remember, each of you carries the potential to contribute to the legacy of the Elder Gods and the future of Erelos. Study their teachings, practice your magic, and always strive to uphold the values they left us."

As the lesson ended, the students left the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of their world. Seum and Garon walked together, their minds buzzing with the day's revelations.

"I can't believe how connected everything is," Seum said, his voice filled with wonder. "The Elder Gods, the Great Line of Queens, our magic—it all fits together."

Garon nodded, equally awed. "Yeah, it's like we're part of something much bigger. It makes me want to work even harder to understand and protect our world."

With their hearts full of inspiration and determination, Seum and Garon continued their journey of learning and growth, guided by the wisdom of Mistress Thalira Davenwood and the enduring legacy of the Elder Gods.

As the students settled back into their seats, Mistress Thalira Davenwood continued her lecture on the Elder Gods of Erelos, their roles, and the ancient lore surrounding them.

"Now, let's delve deeper into the nature and domains of the Elder Gods of Good," Mistress Davenwood began, her voice clear and resonant. "At the pinnacle stands Ithila, The One Above All, the creator and sustainer of the cosmos, our world and the source of all magic and life. Ithila is the Mother of the Elder Gods, and her presence permeates all creation, providing balance and harmony."

She moved to the tapestry, pointing to a radiant figure at the center. "Ithila is the guiding force behind all that is good and just. Her influence ensures that the light of hope and righteousness remains in our world."

Next, she gestured to another figure, a serene being emanating a calming aura. "First among the Elder Gods is Afwai, The Bringer of Peace. Afwai is the god who ensures harmony and tranquility, often called upon to resolve conflicts and bring solace to troubled hearts."

Lyra Silverbrook raised her hand. "Mistress Davenwood, how do we invoke Afwai’s peace in our lives?"

"Excellent question, Lyra," Mistress Davenwood replied with a gentle smile. "Through meditation, prayer, and acts of compassion, we invite Afwai's calming presence into our lives. It is in moments of stillness and kindness that we feel his touch."

She moved to another depiction, this one of a majestic figure holding a luminous scroll. "Next is Ladrinae, The Bringer of Faith. Ladrinae inspires devotion and trust in the divine. He guides the hearts of believers and strengthens their bond with the gods."

Garon spoke up, intrigued. "So, Ladrinae helps us maintain our faith even when things are difficult?"

"Indeed, Garon," Mistress Davenwood affirmed. "Ladrinae’s influence bolsters our spirits, especially in times of doubt or despair. By maintaining our rituals and prayers, we keep his light within us.  It was the faith of the Stragan people that called upon Holy Ladrinae to save them from their die-ing world."

She pointed to a powerful, muscular figure with a hammer and shield. "Thun, The Bringer of Strength, embodies physical and moral fortitude. He grants us the resilience to face challenges and the courage to stand up for what is right."

Seum listened intently. "Strength isn't just about physical power, is it?"

"Correct, Seum," Mistress Davenwood said. "Thun teaches us that true strength lies in our resolve and our integrity. It is the will to persevere and protect others that defines his blessing."

The next figure she indicated was a gentle woman surrounded by a soft glow. "Nathar, The Bringer of Healing, is the goddess of health and restoration. She oversees all forms of healing, from physical wounds to emotional scars."

Elara Fernwood, fascinated, asked, "How can we invoke Nathar's healing?"

"Healing can be invoked through dedicated practice in the healing arts, empathy, and the use of herbs and spells," Mistress Davenwood explained. "Nathar’s touch is felt in every act of care and kindness.  It is Holy Nathar who is said to guide the dead to their eternal reward -- a supreme act of healing."

She then pointed to a figure holding a gleaming mirror. "Yohua, The Bringer of Truth, reveals all that is hidden. She is the goddess of honesty and clarity, guiding us to see the world as it truly is and to speak and live truthfully."

"Truth can be hard to face sometimes," Lyra mused.

"That it can," Mistress Davenwood agreed. "But Yohua teaches us that truth is the foundation of trust and justice. By embracing truth, we align ourselves with the divine order."

Finally, she gestured to a wise figure with an open book. "Daggua, The Bringer of Wisdom, provides insight and understanding. She illuminates the path of knowledge and helps us make wise decisions."

Seum, ever curious, asked, "How do we seek Daggua’s wisdom?"

"Through study, reflection, and the pursuit of knowledge," Mistress Davenwood answered. "Daggua’s wisdom is in every lesson we learn and every thought we ponder."

Her expression turned grave as she moved to another section of the tapestry, depicting darker, more malevolent figures. "Now, we must discuss the foul Nybog, Lord of the Abyss, and its evil gods."

She pointed to a dark, ominous figure surrounded by shadows. "Nybog is the embodiment of evil, chaos and malevolence, seeking to disrupt the balance established by Ithila. It commands the forces of darkness and is the greatest threat to our world."

Mistress Davenwood continued, her voice somber. "Zihjm, Master of the Undead, raises the dead to serve its vile purposes, spreading fear and death."

Garon shuddered. "How do we protect ourselves from Zihjm’s influence?"

"By ensuring the proper rites for the dead and using holy magic," Mistress Davenwood replied. "Faith and vigilance are our strongest defenses."

She then indicated a massive, fearsome figure with fiery eyes. "Gath, The Destroyer of Worlds, commands demons and seeks to obliterate all creation. His presence is felt in every act of wanton destruction."

Elara asked, "How do we counter Gath’s power?"

"Through unity, courage, and the strength bestowed by Thun," Mistress Davenwood said. "Standing together, we can repel his demonic forces."

Lastly, she pointed to a sinister figure with serpentine features. "Tsah, The Impaler, master of the Serpent People, deals in plagues and poisons. Her touch brings suffering and disease."

Seum’s expression was resolute. "How do we fight against Tsah’s plagues?"

"Through healing, purification, and the blessings of Nathar," Mistress Davenwood explained. "Knowledge of alchemy and medicine also plays a crucial role in combating her vile afflictions."

As the students absorbed the gravity of the dark gods’ threat, Mistress Davenwood concluded, "It is through understanding both the light and the dark that we find our true path. The Elder Gods of Good guide us, and by following their teachings, we can protect Erelos from the evils that seek to destroy it."

The room fell silent as the students reflected on the powerful knowledge they had gained. Seum felt a renewed sense of determination, understanding that his studies were not just about personal growth but about safeguarding their world.

With a final, encouraging smile, Mistress Davenwood dismissed the class. "Remember, each of you has a role in this eternal struggle. Embrace the teachings of the Elder Gods, and you will find the strength to face whatever comes."

As the students left the classroom, their hearts and minds were filled with a deep sense of purpose. They were not just students; they were the future protectors of Erelos, guided by the wisdom and strength of the Elder Gods.

As the students settled back into their seats after a brief break, Mistress Thalira Davenwood prepared to continue her lesson. One of the students, a thoughtful girl named Elara Fernwood, raised her hand with a question that had been on her mind.

"Mistress Davenwood, I've heard a vague legend about something called 'The Missing One.' It's mentioned briefly in the oldest texts. Can you tell us more about it?"

Mistress Davenwood's expression turned contemplative. "Ah, The Missing One. That is indeed a subject shrouded in mystery and speculation. The legend speaks of a Holy Child of Ithila who did not appear when the rest of the Elder Gods emerged."

She walked over to the ancient tome she had referenced earlier and carefully opened it to a well-worn page. The students leaned forward, eager to hear more.

"The oldest texts," she began, "mention a prophecy that one day, The Missing One would arise and allow the task of creation to continue to completion. This reference is found in the most ancient and fragmented scriptures, often written in cryptic language. The texts suggest that when Ithila, The One Above All, created the Elder Gods, there was one who did not manifest as intended."

Seum, his curiosity piqued, asked, "What does it mean that this Holy Child didn't appear? Where did they go?"

Mistress Davenwood shook her head slightly. "That is one of the great mysteries. Some scholars believe that The Missing One exists in a different realm or state of being, waiting for the right time to reveal themselves. Others think that The Missing One's essence was scattered throughout the cosmos, influencing the world in subtle ways until they can be reformed."

Garon, always inquisitive, leaned forward. "What is this task of creation that The Missing One is supposed to complete?"

"The texts are vague on that point as well," Mistress Davenwood replied, her voice soft and reflective. "It is believed that The Missing One's task involves restoring a balance or completing a divine work left unfinished. Some interpretations suggest that The Missing One will play a crucial role in the ultimate defeat of the forces of darkness, particularly Nybog and its minions."

Lyra Silverbrook, her eyes wide with wonder, asked, "Is there any indication of when The Missing One will appear?"

"Only in the vaguest terms," Mistress Davenwood said. "The prophecy hints that The Missing One will arise in a time of great need, when the balance of the world is most threatened. It is said that their emergence will be heralded by signs and wonders, though what form these will take is unknown."

Elara, still intrigued, asked, "Could the return of the Great Line of Queens be connected to The Missing One?"

Mistress Davenwood considered this for a moment. "It is possible. The prophecies of the Great Line of Queens and The Missing One are often found in the same ancient texts. Some scholars believe that the return of the queens and the appearance of The Missing One are intertwined, each fulfilling a part of a larger, divine plan."

Seum felt a sense of awe and responsibility. "So, The Missing One is essential to the future of Erelos?"

"Indeed," Mistress Davenwood confirmed. "The legend of The Missing One reminds us that there are still many mysteries about our world and its creation. It teaches us to remain vigilant, to seek understanding, and to be prepared for the roles we may play in the unfolding of these ancient prophecies."

The students sat in thoughtful silence, absorbing the profound implications of what they had learned. Mistress Davenwood closed the ancient tome with a reverent touch and looked around the room.

"As we conclude today's lesson, remember that the lore of the Elder Gods and the legends of The Missing One are not just stories of the past but are threads in the tapestry of our present and future. By studying these teachings, we prepare ourselves to contribute to the balance and harmony of Erelos."

Seum and Garon walked together, discussing the day's revelations.

"The Missing One," Seum mused, "it's incredible to think that someone so important could be out there, waiting to complete Ithila's work."

Garon nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Yeah, it makes you realize how much we still don't know about our world and our place in it. But it also gives hope that no matter how dark things get, there's a plan for balance and light."
