Raktajin
This is an ancient form of magic, through the use of wands or staves. It fell out of use in the 2nd Age. Now, this form is beginning to reemerge, as these ancient weapons have inexplicably come back on to the scene. Through this dueling form, the mage focuses their Mystia through the weapon, in order to unleash simple dart or missile attacks. Some may use the wand or staff as a focus for their spells, as well. Some have formed entire dueling cultures through these weapons, as many see this form as elegant as fencing is in swordplay.
Raktajin was originally invented thousands of years ago, in 243 1A. At the height of its popularity, many saw it as the one true form of Mystia Craft. But as other forms began to come on to the scene, and as Mystia Craft evolved over the years, it popularity diminished, and by 1367 2A, had died out completely. Wands and staves were found to be unnecessary, as people learned to cast their spells without a focus, entirely through somatic and verbal components, as well as a little material. A few spells with focus components still exist and still in practice, though many have taken to using crystals as foci instead.
But around 2735 3A, one man, Alvin Rinka, obsessed with this ancient form of Mystia Craft, sought out to reinvent wands and staves. Originally, crystals were simply placed on the tip of the weapon. But he found this to be inefficient. And through much trial and error, he found that by heating the crystal to a certain degree, he could melt and meld it into a thread, which he built into the core of the weapon. He also found that he could, using a quartz crystal as an insulator, intertwine two or more different colour crystals. The quartz is merely there to prevent the crystals from cross reacting, as he had a bit of an accident when he tried intertwining them without it, when it backfired on him spectacularly.
Now, with this man's help, Raktajin has reemerged, after over a thousand years, and it is quickly gaining more and more popularity. You have trained yourself in this ancient craft and have learned to master it. You may have even crafted your own wand or staff, completing your training.
